Birch Bark Vases
I will be transforming glass jars into vases for Between Naps on The Porch Metamorphasis Monday Http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/
Hubby and I traveled down to Mass. this weekend to celebrate our niece's second birthday. We had a great time! The weather was beautiful and we got to spend a lot of time with our two favorite little girls!
I didn't get a chance to hit the thrift stores this weekend, but I was inspired by the April 2010 Country Living magazine. Their cover had some great looking birch bark vases. So i decided to recreate my own.
Bailey and I trudged through the woods to find some birch bark.
I had saved some glass jars from the spaghetti sauce, and had found some canning jars at the dump.
I got out my trusty glue gun and hot glued the bark to the glass. I also cut out birch bark circles for the bottom of the vases.
TA DA... Finished Product and Top View
Now all I need is some great spring flowers to fill them... I wonder if hubby reads my blog.. :)

Thrifty Eats
Since i've been hanging around with a bunch of pregnant women lately I know all the places that sell ice cream from home to work. I got a hot tip though that our local pizza place has 1/2 off ice cream on Thursdays. Hubby and I went down and enjoyed a medium and large twist with sprinkles for a grand total of $2.21. If this keeps up through the summer I can tell that me and the preggos will be waddling down there (my waddle will be from all the weight I gained hanging out with those two!) Gotta love Fire 21 Pizza and Subs.
Happy belated St. Patrick's Day. Hubby and I went out and celebrated a little too much last night. Another thrifty tip become friends with a bud representative and drink all night for free. I did find a new beer that I like. Hoegaarden is a white ale and is very sweet. Most of the time Im usually a wineo but this beer won my heart. Perfect for those summer bbqs.

Thrifty Saturday Finds
So hubby and I headed out on Saturday morning to a few thrift stores. Im not sure if hubby is really enjoying thrifting or if he just goes to curb my spending! Our first stop was the dump. Lately the dump has had nothing good. Today I found a pair of leather flip flops (they look barely used)
Our next stop was one a church thrift store that I don't frequent that often in Fryeburg Maine.
To my delight everything that day was FREE! My first thought was not yah everything is free! it was oh no another thrift store out of business! To my relief though they were just making room for spring and summer clothing. Here is what I got:
We also went to a couple of other thrift stores. This was definitely the find of the day!
An LL Bean raincoat in wonderful condition!
It retails for $130 I got it for 50 cents!

It Pays to Shop Thrifty
So I haven't had time to thrift lately, between my masters program and house projects we've been super busy. My mother at acorn hollow http://acornhollow.blogspot.com/ has found some wonderful items thrifting lately. This is why it pays to thrift..
Not all of my clothes are from thrift stores (most but not all!). My wonderful hubby bought me a fleece lined sweatshirt from L.L Bean. The sweatshirt is wonderful, snuggy, and very heavy. My hubster shelled out $49.95. My mom found almost the exact same sweatshirt (the only difference was the inside was a caramel color not white like mine) for $3.00 at the thrift store!
So if you are patient you can find almost anything at the thrift store!
